Musto & Daughter

Vintage cars. Teeth. Real Estate.

Charles Musto—AKA my father— clearly has a diverse array of passions.

At just nineteen, my dad purchased and restored a Flame Red 1957 Thunderbird, the very undertaking that ignited his entrepreneurial spirit. Having no real garage at his disposal, dad suspended the body from a tree as he rebuilt its engine.

After hearing that story in my youth, I am unsurprised that he’s developed one heck of a real estate portfolio using that very same resourcefulness and self-taught skill.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Dad is an educated man. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and has built an esteemed periodontal practice in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania. Dental implants were exciting to him, and he expanded his car collection when he wasn’t busy sticking his hands in people’s mouths. As if managing his dental practice, buying and selling cars, and raising two daughters wasn’t challenging enough, dad longed to build his knowledge in commercial real estate.

Just as he did with his first Thunderbird, he began with an investment and learned from trial and error, using his instincts and supportive network as guides for prosperity.

Naturally, because he’s Charles Musto, he didn’t stop with one property. Over the years, he acquired a hefty portfolio that comprises over 500,000+ square feet.

I never thought that I would follow in his dental footsteps; I much prefer pantsuits over scrubs. So when my older sister became a second Dr. Musto, D.M.D, I was relieved. I attended Wilkes University and pursued a degree in business management, knowing that I wanted to be a creative, ethical, fashionable, social, and effective leader in my career.

I am, however, my father’s daughter. I expand my knowledge for the sake of expanding my knowledge. When COVID-19 reared its ugly head and isolated me from the outside world, I excessively cuddled my Goldendoodle, Stella, and earned my real estate license.

Completing the licensing coursework provided me with background knowledge that dad didn’t have when he started investing, and I was determined to gather as much as possible.

My timing was impeccable. Dad’s growing portfolio clearly required a property manager, a role I eagerly accepted. The joys of being my father’s employee mean that meetings take place in the front seat of one of his 60+-year-old cars, with me driving and Stella on his lap.

It was actually behind the wheel of my beloved 1963 Volkswagen Beetle that I pitched the idea of Musto & Daughter, the real estate entity that would manage our newest acquisition: The Gateway Shopping Center.

Having nearly doubled the number of rental spaces we already own with this purchase, my dad and I are eager to foster interpersonal relationships with local entrepreneurs and to promote economic development in our community.

I am a risk-taker, a dog lover, a vintage car driver, and a real estate marketing manager because of my dad. He’s a pretty neat guy. I think you’ll all like him.

Sincerely, his daughter,

Vanessa Musto
